Nature’s Acre in Schools
There is a version of this that sounds like a programme. This is not that.
This is what happens when a class tries something small and real and sees what follows.
Seeds in pots.
A strip left to grow.
A bowl of water.
Noticing what is already there.
Nothing complicated. Nothing that needs to be perfect.
What this looks like in practice
In one class, children planted seeds in whatever containers were to hand and watched what came up.
In another, a visit to a community allotment turned into planting, cooking, and seeing where food actually comes from.
In another, something as simple as leaving space and paying attention led to questions, observations, and a different kind of engagement.
Much of this work was already happening. What changes is the connection. The book is read, the ideas land, and things that were already being done begin to make more sense.

What matters
A real classroom is not an ideal environment.
There is limited time. Limited space. Limited energy. Other demands.
So this is not about getting it right. It is about trying something that can actually work in those conditions.
Some things will fail. Some will be forgotten. Some will work better than expected.
That is the work.
Start here
Try one thing.
Plant something small.
Leave a patch.
Put out water.
Ask the class what they notice.
That is enough.
What happens next
If something is tried, something usually follows.
A plant grows. An insect appears. A question is asked. A connection is made.
It does not need to be more than that.
If you try something
If you try something small in your class, I would genuinely like to hear how it goes.
Some teachers have already shared what they are doing. This page will grow from those real examples over time.
I will send copies of Nature’s Acre to some classes who take part.
Where this comes from
This work started in one garden and the book that came out of it.
